A 15-year-old youth is in custody after he was caught allegedly attempting to smuggle $30,000 worth of marijuana into Nassau from Andros on Friday.

The drug bust happened shortly after noon at the Lynden Pindling International Airport.

According to reports, Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) officers, acting on intelligence, conducted a search of the suspect’s carry-on bag at the LPIA General Aviation Section. The teenager had just arrived on a charter flight from Andros.

During the search, officers discovered 20lbs of marijuana with a estimated street value of $30,000. The suspect was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

In May, police arrested three men after they were caught attempting to smuggle $1.2 million worth of marijuana into Nassau from Andros. Two weeks before this seizure, police arrested four men in connection with a $900,000 marijuana catch in Andros.

So far for the year, police have confiscated more than $9 million worth of drugs. Supt Samuel Butler, Officer in charge of the DEU, said because of the success in drug seizures the market is shrinking and dealers are increasing the price of drugs.

He also credited the frequent seizures to the collaboration between the DEU and the Drug Enforcement Agency in the United States.

They're drug dealers. You know, failed out of school in grade 6, don't know their father's, let their gang member boyz pull train on their mothers. They can't read a newspaper. They probably don't even know the PLP are in power!
