BAHAMAS Electricity Corporation Executive Chairman Leslie Miller said yesterday there will be no investigation into who leaked private information about electricity bills associated with him and his family-owned business to the press because “it is a waste of time”.

The Tall Pines MP added that he is “not surprised BEC workers would stoop so low” to leak information about outstanding debt to the corporation.

In an interview with The Tribune, Mr Miller said he has made several major changes at BEC since being appointed chairman that have angered a lot of people.

He said the opposition to his management style has prompted people to take action so that operations at BEC will return to how things were before his appointment. “People do what they have to do,” Mr Miller said. “Some of that stuff (leaks) could have come from senior management or line staff.

“You have to remember, so far since I have been appointed I have saved the country $7m in overtime and $1.5m in double dipping. When you do those things, you affect the financial affairs of people who were getting that and so they got mad. What do you expect them to say about me, that they love me?

“No, they don’t like me at all and I am fine with that as long as I save this country some money. I have no regard for what these people think. This drama is getting people to forget all the good that was done and is still being done.”

Mr Miller said his record speaks for itself and he will not be distracted from doing the job he was appointed to do.

“They can do what they want to do. I do not have time for who leak that. My concern is for the Bahamas. You have some businesses who owe BEC $5m, my BEC bill is up to date, you can’t kill a man for a business he is associated with. Every business in this country owes BEC,” he said.

“I am doing my job and it affects people, they don’t like me, I wouldn’t like me. They want me gone, it is not affecting me.

“Whatever they saying about me is their business, but I will not waste my time with no investigation.”

Last week, it was revealed that Mr Miller owed the corporation more than $200,000.

According to published reports, a Harrold Road building registered with BEC in Mr Miller’s name owes the corporation $46,373.77.

Those records also show that a Harrold Road bowling alley, owned by Summerwinds Investments Ltd, owes the corporation $193,159.56.

Together the businesses owed BEC $239,533.33.

Last Wednesday, a $100,000 cash payment was made on the bowling alley’s bill by Mr Miller’s daughter.
