PRIME Minister Perry Christie will officially open and name the building that houses the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs the “Paul L Adderley Building.”
The naming will take place this morning during a special ceremony that will commemorate the life and legacy of Mr Adderley, who died on September 19, 2012. Mr Adderley was the first and longest serving Attorney General of an independent Bahamas, having served from 1973 to 1989. He was also a former Cabinet minister and parliamentarian.
“The late honourable Paul Lawrence Adderley was one of our nation’s greatest national heroes. He was an outstanding and loyal Bahamian who gave selflessly to our country.
“It gives the government great pleasure to celebrate the life and legacy of so great a Bahamian as Mr Adderley, by naming the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Legal Affairs in his honour.
“It is my hope that the building to be so named will serve as a memorial to his life and legacy for current and future generations of Bahamians to come,” Labour Minister Shane Gibson said in a statement.
Mr Gibson, Allyson Maynard-Gibson, the Attorney General and minister of legal affairs, Damien Gomez, minister of State for legal affairs and others are expected to attend the event.
