PRIME Minister Perry Christie yesterday confirmed that his recommendation for the new Governor General has been sent to the Queen for approval.
Mr Christie remained tight-lipped over his pick for the successor to Governor General Sir Arthur Foulkes, who met with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace yesterday.
Mr Christie said: “The Queen has to appoint a
representative, we await the Queen’s pleasure.
“The governor-general is seeing Her Majesty (yesterday) so it’s a process that I am not commenting on because he is still the governor.”
He added: “I have not spoken to any person in the country personally on this.”
Sir Arthur is slated to demit office on July 8.
It has been speculated that Dame Marguerite Pindling, who is his deputy, will be named as his successor.
Last week, Mr Christie confirmed that she was under consideration for the post. However, her consideration was brought into question after it was revealed that the real property tax account for her home in western New Providence fell into arrears.
Dame Marguerite is the widow of the first Bahamian Prime Minister Sir Lynden Pindling.
Last week The Tribune reported that, according to documents obtained by this newspaper, payments had not been made since 2000, the year Sir Lynden died.
The bill of more than $306,000 was paid in full after the information was made public.
Sir Arthur, a veteran journalist, was sworn in as the country’s eighth governor-general on April 14, 2010. He was praised for his political and social activism by former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham during the ceremony.
He was one of the founders of the National Committee for Positive Action, a think tank and activist group within the Progressive Liberal Party that supported the leadership of Sir Lynden, and contributed significantly to the achievement of Majority Rule.

Would love to be a fly on the wall when the Queen is informed of this choice!
I do hope it can be someone who will represent this country well and someone who will not bring further shame and controversy to the good people of the Bahamas. We've had enough and deserve better.

So the Queen - who does not live here and rarely visits - knows who the PM has selected, but the people must wait for it to be revealed? What a bunch of garbage!
This gov't, specifically the PM, certainly does all it can to show us how little relevance we have in its eyes. The leaders of this country do not care what we think, what we want, or how we are affected by its decisions.
If they select Lady Pindling, there will be a lot of displeased people. I just hope they are all prepared to raise hell. We don't need another person in leadership, collecting our money, who does not care to meet his/her own obligations, or feels entitled to tax-free living.

If it is Lady Ping, she will not be embraced by the majority of Bahamians ....... she has no real claim to the position beyond being wife of the first Prime Minister and her recent tax indiscretions leave a sour taste in the mouths of ordinary Bahamians. Its similar to what the PLP did with HM Taylor and the FNM did with Sir Cliff......................... distasteful

Lady Pindling will be accepted by most of the Bahamian people. The haters will just have to accept it. Because they can do nothing about it. In the minds of the haters do you think the Queen has never erred. I am sure she has.

Sooooooooo, while you sit there with your poor ass waiting on handouts from your PLP bosses, you will support this elitist tax dodger collecting 3 government salaries??????????? This country has been dragged through the mud long enough with the Pindling label ........... we dont need it now

Birdie, I am sure if the PLP took a nanny in your mouth you would call it the best food you ever had. Your point of view is null and void as you are a PLP first and a Bahamian second. TRAITOR!

Can you grasp the difference between hate and resentment. You do not have to hate a person to resent the fact that this woman has been masterful in painting a picture of herself as one absolutely entitled to lord herself over ordinary citizens -- the ones who follow the rules of actually working to support themselves and family and paying their bills, including the taxes which are then used to allow her to enjoy a lifestyle well beyond the reach of the majority of Bahamians.

So what money ya'll think built that big ass mansion on 12 acres on the lake?? PM money or drug money, or kickback money?? The bottom line is she has been living off of tainted money for the last 40 years. The Pindlings left a terrible legacy and curse on this country. We are living in the wake of their corruption right now. This woman has NO PLACE on the hill and NO further place in public life....please go away and let this nation begin to heal from ya'll tainted hips.
