POLICE in Grand Bahama are investigating an apparent suicide after a 25-year-old man allegedly jumped to his death from the Casa Bahama building on Monday morning.
Casa Bahama is the tallest building on Grand Bahama and there have been several incidents in the past where persons have fallen to their deaths.
Inspector Terecita Pinder, press liaison officer, reported that shortly before 9am police received information of a body near Casa Bahama on the Mall Drive.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the body of a dark male on the lawn area at the rear of the building.
As news of the discovery quickly spread, a crowd of curious onlookers had gathered at the building complex.
Cars lined the street and persons assembled in the grassy medium to get a glimpse of the body.
Ms Pinder said the victim was clad in a dark blue jacket and blue jeans.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the body was transported to the Rand Memorial Hospital morgue.
Inspector Pinder said police are not able to say how the man met his demise and investigations are continuing into the matter.
“We are at the initial stage of our investigations and we are awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine the cause of death,” she said.
Police have not yet classified this death.
In other crime news, a man is being sought by police for questioning in connection with an armed robbery incident at Silver Point Beach on Sunday.
This is the second incident that occurred at Royal Palm Way. Last Monday, a man was held up and robbed of his cellular phone and wallet at the parking lot at Royal Palm Way.
Inspector Pinder reported that the latest incident occurred shortly after 4pm when a female was at Silver Point Beach.
The woman told police that a man, armed with a machete, held her up and robbed her of a gold chain valued $350.
The culprit was wearing a gray hoodie and black pants. He was about 5’9” tall.
Inspector Pinder said police are aggressively investigating the matter. Anyone with information that can assist the police with their investigation is asked to call 350-3107/8, 911/919.

The woman should have known better than to be wearing a gold chain worth $350 in this economy.
She probably has 7 grown children all unemployed as well. One of them probably told their buddies about their mama's chain.
