EDITOR, The Tribune.

Again I appreciate the space you have allowed me in your valuable paper. I wish to applaud the Bahamas Fire Arms Association on the forming of that entity, and, see it as a body that should have come into effect a long time ago. I hope the government backs it fully.

We all should see the BFA as a necessity, and now even more so in our crime-ridden country. Also the major political parties could receive great backing and votes during times of a general election.

As many know today’s criminals are now sophisticatedly armed with modern military weapons and other dangerous explosives to endanger and hurt the law-abiding and innocent citizens of our country, so it is time that these citizens be taught how to use, and carry concealed weapons to protect themselves – legally, and generally in the protection of life and property against the criminal elements of our society. For as it stands now the criminals are carrying arms, but law abiding citizens are not allowed to carry any, in defence, which could appear to be a very irrational and dangerous situation in a country; we are at the mercy of the negative predators of other humans in this country – The Bahamas.

I am sure that merely knowing that law-abiding citizens on the streets, in their homes or businesses places could be armed, will greatly discourage the criminal minds in committing any offences.
The police are having a hard time in slowing the rise in crime, or, it’s commissions. So to the BFA as an advocate of a Human Rights Concern, I say “Right On!” and I wish to apply for membership.
