CHRISTIAN Council President Dr Ranford Patterson will meet members of the Grand Bahama Christian Council this week after the GBCC’s executive council was dissolved following allegations of homosexuality against its now former president, Rev Keith Matthews.

Amid calls for an official response from the Christian Council to the controversy, Dr Patterson yesterday said he will not comment on the issue until he has met with the relevant parties and received additional information.

His statement comes a week after the GBCC’s executive council was dissolved when 28 of 32 financial member churches voted in favour of dissolving the council.

The move came after a young man claimed on March 11 that he had been involved in a relationship with Rev Meadows.

Rev Meadows has denied the allegations. During the GBCC’s monthly general meeting last week, he said his family has endured “so much pain and heartache over” the “lies and untruths being spoken against us.”

He added that a “few executives” of the Christian Council are responsible for helping to spread the allegations against him.

Currently, the five past presidents of the GBCC are acting in the absence of the council. It is the first time in the GBCC’s history that there has been no executive council.

A committee, headed by Pastor Napthali Cooper, was appointed to conduct an inquiry into the allegations against Rev Meadows.

...Dr Patterson yesterday said he will not comment on the issue until he has met with the relevant parties and received additional information. HMMMM... Tread very carefully 'Sir' because for the very reason(s) as GB's 'Christian' Council president; YOUR position may also soon become vacant... This is a example of the rooster guarding the cock-house! (pun intended) Congratulations Bahamians, are we finally waking up? Sounds like hypocritical Spring cleaning to me, whose next? Rawson Square?
