Interact Club of Kingsway Academy. - Angel Bevans, a charter member of the Interact Club of Kingsway Academy took the top prize (an Android tablet) in a Four-Way Test Essay Competition conducted by the Rotary Club of Nassau. The competition required participants to write a 1200-2000 word essay on: The Relevance of the Four-Way Test in Today’s Society. Angel’s Essay entitled “Crossroads” provided thoughtful insight on how our society as a whole could benefit if persons were to consider and practice these four basic principles known as the Four-Way Test: Is it the Truth? Is it Fair To All Concerned? Will it build Goodwill and Better Friendships? Will It Be Beneficial To All Concerned?

Angel is an 11th grade student and prefect at Kingsway Academy. He achieved a 4.0 GPA during the Christmas term and hopes to become head boy during the next school year. Angel also aspires to become a corporate lawyer and one day hopes to become Prime Minister of The Bahamas. He proudly professes his Christianity and it is through his love for God that he committed to serving his country. Upon completing high school in 2015, Angel hopes obtain an academic scholarship to attend the University of The West Indies where he plans to study Law.

The Interact Club of Kingsway Academy is a school-based community service club sponsored by the Rotary Club of Nassau. Students are challenged to find ways to serve within their school, the local community as well as internationally. Through the Interact club, members are also able to inter alia, enhance and develop their leadership skills, be mentored by Rotarians and receive career counseling. The students also have the opportunity to meet and network with members from other Interact Clubs in the country, the region and beyond.

Rotaract. - District Project & World Rotaract Week

Every year, World Rotaract Week honors the chartering of the first club in North Carolina, USA, on March 13, 1968. Rotaract was officially inaugurated during January 1968 under Rotary International President Luther Hodges. World Rotaract Week, observed annually the week of March 13, is designed to foster Rotaract-Rotary activities in celebration of the founding of the Rotaract programme. This event is also an excellent opportunity to inform members of the community about the amazing work that Rotaract clubs do, and give them an opportunity to get involved.

In this vein, Rotaract District 7020 decided to take the theme of “Building our Future with Vision” literally. The District Project for the 2013-2014 year is to provide eye care testing and eyeglasses to 100 children in each territory of our district to dramatically improve the lives of children with poor vision.

In New Providence, more than 50 children were tested and approximately 20 gasses were distributed and in Eleuthera, over 30 children were tested and five glasses were distributed.

Rotaract Club of South East Nassau. - The Rotaract Club of South East Nassau Centennial strives to positively impact the community through offering assistance to those in need.

In this regard, we planned an event with the theme “An Auction for Action”, which was a major fundraiser to assist The Bahamas Association for the Physically Disabled in their stride to repair their bus so that the children would have an opportunity to go to school to receive training.

The event was a success and a special thank you to all of our sponsors KPMG, Auto Mall and Powerboat Adventures and everyone that donated and supported the event in their special way!

Rotary Clubs of East Nassau and Nassau Sunrise. - The Rotary clubs of East Nassau and Nassau Sunrise joined forces recently to donate books to the Willard Patton School.

The Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise has been supporting the Willard Patton Pre-School for the past two years. Initially, the program began with club members meeting at the school each and every Friday to read stories to the children and to engage them in conversation.

The program has grown to include the building and planting of a vegetable and herb garden that the children maintain on a daily basis.

The school has six classrooms including one dedicated to teaching children with autism and special needs. Each Friday, the Rotary members meet at the school and are assigned a classroom where they sit and read out loud stories to the children.

In addition, the club members engage the children in conversation about their schoolwork, and anything that the children want to discuss.

The program has been very successful and the hope is that it can be expanded beyond the classrooms at Willard Patton.
