IN a continuing effort to partner with the community of Exuma, the Bank of the Bahamas (BOB) recently sponsored the “E” Class Category in the Senior Division of the National Family Island Regatta.
Despite sporadic rainfall during the event in picturesque Elizabeth Harbour, the sailors proved that they possessed the skill to effectively harness the wind while riding the waves in their sloops.
The celebrations concluded on Saturday night, April 26, with an evening of pomp and pageantry and entertainment by the Royal Bahamas Police Force Band. Presentations of the trophies and cash prizes were also presented to the sailors at the closing ceremony.
Aniffa Curtis, Officer-in-Charge of BOB’s Exuma Branch, and Tourism Minister Obie Wilchcombe presented the “E” Class sailors with their trophies and prizes. The Bank of the Bahamas Winner’s Cup went to Lloyd Sands of Andros while Rolston McGregor and Steven Rolle claimed second and third prizes respectively.
For 61 successive years, the National Family Island Regatta has been staged in beautiful Elizabeth Harbour at George Town, Exuma, during the month of April. The event promotes the Bahamas’ sloop sailing tradition which positively impacts Exuma’s economy by the attendance of sailors and supporters who travel to the island to participate in the regatta.
