EDITOR, The Tribune.
In response to the writer who has a problem with Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and President Barack Obama’s support of NBA Commissioner Adam Silver’s lifetime ban, and $2.5 million fine of Robert Sterling’s racism comments. Before his latest racist rant, he had been sued, verbally lambasted, reprimanded, hit with bad press, and threatened with pickets for these racial wrongs. Yet the LA NAACP chapter gave him its highest honour of a Lifetime Achievement award in 2009 for displaying the opposite of everything the nation’s premier civil rights group stands for. Other allegations include a housing discrimination lawsuit and forced settlement, slurs against Hispanics and Afro-Americans, and the shooing away of minorities from his Beverley Hills condos and rentals. Not to mention the lawsuit from former Clippers Elgin Baylor accusing him of running his operation like a “Southern Plantation”. If you support Sterling and others who openly express their bigotry via telephone or in public, then you, my friend, are dead wrong.
