AUTHORITIES have identified the country’s latest traffic fatality as 21-year-old Andre Lightbourn Jr.
The man, also known as “Champ”, died shortly after 11pm on Saturday after he was thrown from the white Ford Escape SUV he was driving. Police said the vehicle collided with a grey Ford Club Wagon. Lightbourn’s death brought the traffic fatality count to ten for the year.
Two of the five other passengers in the Ford Escape, police said, were airlifted to New Providence for treatment
The collision happened at Douds, just south of New Bight where a team of officers from the Road Traffic Department in Nassau visited to assist with investigations.
The incident comes after the deaths of two men in a traffic accident at Hard Hill, Acklins last Monday. They were travelling on Queen’s Highway, heading from Snug Corner to Pinefields, when one of the tyres on the vehicle blew, causing the car to flip over several times before coming to rest on its roof in nearby bushes.
Both the driver and the passenger were ejected from the vehicle – a 2008 Scion. The driver died on the scene and the passenger of his injuries in a local clinic a short time later. Investigations into both matters are continuing.
