POLICE expect to provide an answer today on whether or not criminal charges will be filed in connection with Sunday’s devastating fire that destroyed more than 70 homes in a shanty town in Abaco.

As basic needs and emergency aid is being administered to 104 adults, 36 children of school age and 15 infants now homeless, Superintendent Noel Curry told The Tribune yesterday that at the time “officers are still in the field conducting their investigations into this tragedy”.

“We should have that information by midday tomorrow on whether or not charges will be brought against a person believed to have started the blaze,” the officer-in-charge of the island added.

When asked about reports that threats of harm have been made by victims and residents in Abaco against the 23-year-old man assisting them with their investigations, Supt Curry said that “we do not have anything in our reports to indicate that”.

Claims have been made by the local community that the suspect has a history of mental problems and was recently seen running naked in the area.
