Consulate in Dubai considered to boost finance sector

THE Bahamas is exploring the placement of a consulate in Dubai to serve the financial services sector, the ship registry and to assist with the incorporation of Bahamian companies. Planning is also in the early stages for the Bahamian pavilion for the 2020 expo in Dubai, which will require the recruitment of Bahamian professionals to assist in its design and construction.

Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell was part of a delegation of foreign ministers from the Caribbean to meet the United Arab Emirates Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem Al Hashimy. The Prime Minister of the UAE and the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Crown Prince Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, greeted the visiting Caribbean officials and exchanged views on the development of relations in the region.

Mr Mitchell was joined by the Foreign Ministers of St Vincent, Barbados, St Lucia and Grenada; the Environment Minister of Trinidad and the Ambassador for Guyana.
