AUTHORITIES yesterday said they were monitoring several Facebook groups after treasonous comments were posted sparking hysteria from users.
Central Detective Unit (CDU) Superintendent Paul Rolle, who also has oversight for the cyber crimes division, said police were keeping an eye out for suspicious activity given the nature of the comments, which were concerning.
Mr Rolle declined to say what precautions, if any, were being taken to curtail any anti-government activity.
“I was made aware of the comments on the weekend and we have been monitoring the groups ever since,” Mr Rolle said.
Over the weekend, a Facebook user claimed that plans were being discussed by persons from various communities to organise an armed militia group with the sole purpose of ousting the Christie administration and having new elections within six months.
According to the post, the 75 persons who comprised the militia were disgruntled with the state of affairs in the country.
The post said: “Tired of poor young boys and girls being sexually exploited. Tired of seeing educated unemployed Bahamians resorting to prostitution to pay their bills. Tired of seeing misguided young men kill themselves over street corners and drugs. Tired of politicians lying to and abusing Bahamians. Tired of the high cost of living here in the Bahamas. Tired of this wave of folly and sodomites that has ruined our innocence. Tired of just being taken for granted.
“People trust me when I tell you all this, when these people decide to act plenty people will die. I am for the first time really afraid of the amount of bloodshed that will occur as a result. It goes to show how frustrated people are with this worthless, arrogant, lousy, self centred government.
“The security of many will be shattered. I can only pray to God for his intervention. These people are quite serious.
“If something is not done and very soon our fragile democracy will surely be shattered. I did my part and advised them not to go through with it, but they are ‘hell bent’ on doing this.
“This is going to make international news.
“It’s going to be utter chaos. Three different gangs are coming together to overthrow this government because they are of the view that persons within positions of authority are killing them one by one as they come out of jail on bail.”
The comments were later shared on Facebook group The No Spin Zone but were taken down by group administration.
