BAHAMIANS may pride themselves in being quick off the mark but at the opening of the first Carl’s Jr restaurant in the country at the weekend they were beaten by a Canadian.

The burger franchise offered an “eat free for a year” promotion for the first 50 people through the door of the restaurant on Nassau’s East West Highway on Saturday.

Kail Smith, visiting the Bahamas from Calgary, heard about the promotion on 100Jamz and as a devotee of the restaurant he arrived at 8.30 on Friday night ready for the 11am Saturday opening.

“I set up shop, slept on the street and surprisingly made a lot of new friends,” he said.

Mr Smith said that his mother has adopted children and his plan is to share the prize with them.

“Looks like I’ll be coming to the Bahamas a lot now for my Carl’s Jr,” he quipped.
