FREEPORT – Two Bahamian men and 53 illegal immigrants were discovered off the Great Isaac Bank in Bimini on Friday.
US Coast Guard officials, along with officers from Harbour Patrol, spotted and intercepted a 44ft vessel shortly after noon on Friday.
On board were 52 Haitians and one Jamaican. The group was taken into police custody.
Two Bahamian men, who are believed to be the captains of the vessel, were also taken into custody.
The illegal immigrants were taken to Grand Bahama and handed over to immigration authorities.
