THE Bahamas has 81 mobile cellular subscriptions for every 100 people according the World Bank’s World Development Indicator’s Report published this year.

The figure is two shy of Mexico and far less than the Philippines’ 107, according to the report which sources the 2012 data from the International Telecommunication Union’s World Telecommunication/ICT indicators database.

The Bahamas, Mexico and the Philippines – with respective populations of 371,000, 16.3 million and 97.6 million – are among a number of countries the National Security Agency (NSA) is “secretly intercepting, recording and archiving” the audio of cellphone conversations according to an article posted on Firstlook.org last week.
