FIREFIGHTERS discovered charred human remains yesterday morning after they extinguished a massive blaze in a home off Adelaide.
According to Fire Chief Walter Evans, by the time fire officials were notified around 1am, the home was completely engulfed in flames.
“When firefighters and the police department arrived at the home it was already fully ablaze. After the firefighters got the fire under control and extinguished the flames, they discovered human remains inside the home,” he said.
“The body was found lying in a bed in a northern bedroom of the single storey structure. We are unsure at the moment if the body is that of a male or female because it was badly burned. An autopsy as well as a DNA analysis will have to be performed to determine the person’s identity and the cause of death.”
Supt Evans also said police are unsure of the circumstances surrounding the blaze and an investigation is now underway. He said he was told by residents that a man lived in the home alone. Investigations continue.
