Grand Bahama Road Cycling Championships. - The upcoming Grand Bahama Road Cycling Championships is scheduled for Saturday June 28, on the island of Grand Bahama. This event was intended to have a maximum distance of 100 miles. However, in what I’m sure will prove to be to the great dismay of many, this will no longer be the case. The distance has been reduced to 73 miles in hopes to make for a more exciting and spectator friendly event.

However, everything else remains the same. The categories and distances per category are listed below. I

As those of you who have participated in previous GBCC events know, the starting point for this race is on the Grand Bahama Highway, near the airport roundabout, which makes it easy for those who may choose to fly in that morning or who may wish to fly out directly after the race.

Cat 1: Male 73 miles; Female 61 miles.

Cat 2: Male 61 miles; Female 37 miles.

Cat 3: Male 37 miles; Female 25 miles.

Juniors: Male 25 miles; Female TBA based on participation.

As always, spectators are welcome, but participation is encouraged!

Rotaract Club of East Nassau. - This past weekend, members of the Rotaract Club of East Nassau visited residents of Unity House.

Aided by the sponsorship of Bahamas Wholesale Agencies Ltd, the group spent Saturday afternoon sharing in fellowship with, and providing lunch for, the residents and staff of the home.

This event – the second that the club has held in conjunction with Unity House – brought together the gems of our community with some of our nation’s youth.

Unity House, established in 1986, provides shelter and care for its nearly 40 elderly residents. The home is managed by Mrs Janet Butler, and is located on East Street.

The Rotaract Club of East Nassau, sponsored by the Rotary Club of East Nassau, is a service organisation of young professionals whose efforts are aimed at addressing community needs.
