THE Bahamas will be represented by a four member team that left town on Thursday to compete in the Americas Zone III Davis Cup Tie in Puerto Rico June 2-7 on the outdoor hard courts at the Palmes Athletic Club.
Unlike in the past, the team will not have a non-playing captain. Instead, veteran Marvin Rolle will travel as the playing captain. The other members of the team are veteran Devin Mullings and Jamal Adderley, both from Grand Bahama, along with Kevin Major Jr.
The quartet are all returning from last year where they went undefeated in their first four games, only to lose 2-0 to Paraguay in the playoff, knocking them out of contention to advance to Zone II.
Mullings had the most success, going 3-1 in singles and 1-0 in doubles. Adderley was 1-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles. Rolle went 0-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles. And Major only played singles, going 1-3.
The Bahamas, tied with Malaysia at No. 71 in the world, will be matched in one of two pools with teams from Bermuda, Costa Rica, Cuba, Honduras, Jamaica, Panama, Puerto Rico and Trinidad & Tobago. The teams will play in a round robin format. The winner of Pool A will play-off against the runner-up in Pool B and the winner of Pool B will play-off against the runner-up in Pool A to determine which two nations are promoted to Americas Zone Group II in 2015.
The top two teams at the end of the tournament will be promoted to Zone II for 2015. The other teams will remain in Zone III.
