FOUR men must wait a few more days before they learn when they will stand trial in connection with a seizure of $900,000 worth of marijuana in southern New Providence.
Wayne Pryce, 53, of Kingston, Jamaica, along with three Bahamians, Jamal Greene, 32, of Boil Fish Avenue, Ty Wallace, 35, and 48-year-old Theodore Lockhart (both of Maple Street) were scheduled to appear before Magistrate Andrew Forbes of court No 8 yesterday.
However, the magistrate was out of court for the day and as a result, the accused men will now appear before Magistrate Forbes on June 2.
They were arraigned on Monday before Magistrate Samuel McKinney in Court No 1 facing four drug-related charges concerning a May 22 seizure.
They are charged with possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply, conspiracy to possess dangerous drugs with intent to supply, conspiracy to import dangerous drugs and importation of dangerous drugs. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
On the morning in question, a team of officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) acting on a tip, arrested the four suspects off Carmichael Road around 6am.
The team intercepted a white van in the area of Faith Avenue off Cowpen Road. The van allegedly had 37 packages of suspected marijuana weighing about 670 pounds. The men who were arrested were inside a vehicle owned by the company MIYA, which has a partnership with the Water and Sewerage Co-operation (WSC) to reduce water losses.
One of the suspects is an employee of the company who had completed an overnight shift that ended at 5am, a statement from MIYA said.
The accused men are on remand at Her Majesty’s Prisons.
