RUGBY

NATIONAL TEAM OFF

THE Bahamas Rugby Union has sent a national team off to compete in an international sanctioned match in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The team, managed by Stephen Thompson and coached by Jose Vianna, is comprised of youth and experience. Five of the players are from Grand Bahama and the other 18 are from New Providence.

The team is slated to compete 3pm Saturday. The Turks and Cacios Islands just recently defeated Jamaica 10-6. On their return home, the Bahamas will prepare to face Jamaica on June 28 at the Winton Rugby Pitch.

BOWLING

FINANCIAL LEAGUE

THE top player in the Financial Bowling League competition Wednesday night was Alfred Burrows of the BTC Night Hawks, who toppled the pins for a 586 high three game set. The runner-up MVP was Carl Rolle of Deloitte & Touche, who struck for a second high game of 208 and a second high set of 553. Kevin Williams of Strike Force crushed the pins for a 222 high game of the night.

The ladies MVP of the evening was Xynea Johnson of Fidelity Bulldogs with an outstanding 218 high game and a 521 three game set. Johnson was followed by Joy Lockhart of BTC Night Hawks, who dropped the pins for a 474 second high set. Patrina Cartwright of Sunshine Insurance had a 175 second high game for the ladies.

Other scores of the evening were: Moonlight 3, Sunshine Insurance 0; Leno Corporate Services 2, Strike Force 1; Price Waterhouse Coopers 2, Rubis Oil Stars 1; Forsythe Communications 2, Deloitte & Touche 1; BTC Night Hawks 2, Fidelity Bulldogs 1.

The Financial Leaguers have now completed their regular season schedule with play-offs set to begin on Wednesday and Thursday at 7pm. Deloitte & Touche will then face the BTC Night Hawks in a best-of-5 game series with the winner meeting the Strike Force bowling team in a best-of-7 series, while Leno Corporate Services would take on the Fidelity Bulldogs.
