BAHAMIANS AT WORLD CUP

THE Bahamas’ two-member team of national champions Leonardo ‘Lee’ Davis and Xynea Johnson are trying to make up some ground in the standings at the 50th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Wroclaw, Poland.

After the first two days of competition, Davis is sitting in 26th place out of a field of 56 competitors. Through his first five games, Davis has a total pinfalls of 1,009 for an average of 201.80. He posted a high game of 247. Davis trails Aidan Bryne of Ireland, who sits in the 25th spot with 202.20.

The bowlers have to make the top 24 in order to advance to the playoffs. That spot is currently occupied by Nayel Eqab Jabber with 202.40. Tobias Bording of Germany controls the leaderboard with his average of 254.00.

Johnson, meanwhile, is in 54th spot in the ladies’ division with her total of 844 pins for a 168.80 average. Edissa Andrade of Panama is holding onto the 24th spot with 191.40. The top bowler so far is Liza del Rosario of the Philippines with a 239.00 average.

CITY BOWLING LEAGUE

THE top players in City Bowling League competition Monday night were Sammie Symonette of the Discoverers and Charles ‘CQ’ Johnson of Checkers Cafe, who both toppled the pins for an even 600 high three game series. Symonette also dropped the pins for a 244 high game of the evening, while Che Chase of the Ten Back Strikers crushed the pins for the second high game of 243.

The ladies’ MVP of the evening was Janice Hoyte of the Ten Back Strikers with a 213 high game and an outstanding 587 three game set. Hoyte was followed by Carla Stafford of Commonwealth Electrical and Paula Harts of the BEC Shockers, who tied the second high set with 534. Joy Lockhart of The Discoverers downed the pins for the second high game of 208.

Other scores of the evening were:

CAC SUCCESS

WHILE the performance of Prime Minister Perry Christie at the 1962 Central American and Caribbean Games was highlighted in Tuesday’s Tribune, it should be noted that the sailing team swept all four classes, winning three gold medals and one silver.

In the Star Class, Sir Durward ‘Sea Wolf’ Knowles and Sloan Farrington captured the gold, in the Dragon Class, Godfrey Kelly, Bobby Symonette and Roy Ramsey also won the gold, in the Snipe Class, Basil Kelly and Buck Johnson struck gold and in the Flying Dutchman Class, Peter Christie and John Morley picked up the silver.
