STARFORCE promotions will feature the popular Atlanta-based hip hop trio Migos in their ninth and last concert for the year this Friday.

The company will host the upcoming concert at the Luna Nightclub in collaboration with MVP Entertainment.

Migos, who are all set to perform for the first time ever in the Bahamas, are known locally and around the world for hits like “Fight Night”, “Handsome And Wealthy”, “Hannah Montana” and “Versace”.

Starforce Promotions, which has built a reputation on bringing international reggae, dancehall, hip hop and rap artists to our Bahamian shores, has in the past hosted music stars such as Jah Cure, Richie Spice, Chevaughn, Christopher Martin, Sizzla Kalonji, Tarrus Riley, Meek Mill, and most recently, rapper K Camp.

Tom “Terrible T” Butler of Starforce Promotions said it has been a busy year for the company.

“We did promotions for the ‘Best of the Best’ concert in Miami, Florida with the Bahamas Rat Pack; the Bahamian All-Star Party; dancehall artist Kranium at Harry’s Hut during the Labour Day holiday; Jah Boukes and Alaine at the Guinness Talent Search; Meek Mills and Rick Ross, Shurwayne Winchester at the Bahamian Flag Party, the Hennessy Artistry concert and more. This year was a huge success where we did more concerts within a year than we ever did before. We usually do four max, but this year we basically did one every month and all were well attended,” said Mr Butler.

He said they may have an appreciation party event in December, but the Migos concert will be the company’s final major concert for the year.

“We are bringing Migos because this is a group we have been working on for months in terms of getting them here to perform. Due to their popularity, we didn’t have a chance to get them in the summer, and now finally a date became open for us and we took advantage of it. They had a booking that got cancelled, which made them available for this weekend,” he said.

Before the Migos confirmation, Mr Butler said they had organised an online survey where they asked Bahamians to name a list of performers they were interested in seeing. He said Migos held a place at the top of the survey list, and now Starforce is making it happen.

“We released the flyer online and since then have been receiving some of the craziest buzz and feedback. People were buying tickets well in advance, so that is how highly anticipated this concert is. I personally think this is going to be our biggest for the year and it is going to outdo the Meek Mill and Rick Ross concert,” said Mr Butler.

A veteran in the music business, Mr Butler said he believes the new hip hop group is so popular because their lyrics and beats are catchy.

“Entertainers also have their certain swag and style going on which attracts people also. They are hot all around the world right now because they are one of the only rap groups that have about four hit songs that are on high rotation at countless radio stations,” said Mr Butler.

He said the Migos members are excited about Friday’s concert because they have never travelled to the Bahamas before. In fact, he said these guys just officially got their passports about a few weeks ago.

“They only saw the Bahamas advertised on TV so they are extra excited to not only hit the Luna stage, but to get a taste of the Bahamas life. When we were talking to them, they said when they are finished with their hype performance we will definitely want to have them back again,” said Mr Butler.

Starforce Promotions are also known for giving local artists a chance to hit the stage at their major concerts, and this one is no different.

“We have a lot of folks coming in, e-mailing and bringing their demo tapes. We don’t want to use any of the traditional local artists, so we are going to take our time with these and decide who we are going to go with based on the information received. We are going to give these newcomers a chance to shine,” he said.

Mr Butler recalled Starforce’s introduction to the entertainment scene some 20 years ago and said he is pleased to see the improvement and growth within the promotion company over the years.

“I see the company going far, putting the Bahamas on the map in a big way. Just about every country around the world has a music festival where people travel from all around to attend, and that is something I would like to see happen here; that is our goal. We have a lot of interesting things that are going to happen early into next year that will surprise a lot of people,” he said.
