POLICE arrested five additional men Monday afternoon in connection with the shooting death and armed robbery of Blair resident Andre Cartwright.

This brings the total number of people, which includes a woman, who have been arrested in connection with the crime to eight.

The latest arrests happened shortly before 3pm on Monday.

Police said a team of officers from the Flying Squad, acting on intelligence, went to a home in Montell Heights, where they arrested the five suspects.

Cartwright was killed almost two weeks ago.

According to reports, Cartwright was at his Blair Estates home around 1:40am with his mother and father, when three men kicked in the front door of the house.

When he heard the noise, Cartwright got his licensed shotgun and went to investigate. He encountered the three suspects, one of whom was allegedly armed with a handgun.

There was a brief exchange of gunfire, which resulted in Cartwright being shot multiple times. He died at the scene. One of the suspects was also shot; however, he and the other men escaped in a silver coloured Honda Accord.

Shortly afterwards a female driver arrived at the Princess Margaret Hospital with a man suffering from gunshot injuries to his chest. He was rushed into surgery.

Police said the woman, of Rocky Pine Road, was arrested at the hospital.

The five suspects arrested this week are expected to appear in court sometime this week to be formally charged.

Two men, Tiano D’Haiti, 23, of Thompson Lane, and Kevin Andrews, 24 of Montell Heights, were charged yesterday. It is claimed that D’Haiti broke into the home of Glenn Cartwright and killed the 44-year-old victim.

Prosecutors alleged that Andrews, knowing that D’Haiti had committed murder, helped him evade the law.

Investigations are continuing.

Please don't let them out on bail with "ankle bracelets" that don't seem to work. It has been proven that criminals on bail are prone to more law breaking activities.
