DURING its 89th year, five musicians who have collectively contributed 143 years to the brass band ministries of the Church of God of Prophecy will be honoured for their faithful stewardship to one of the oldest church brass bands in the country.

Brother Leon R Williams, Pastor John W Ferguson, Minister Eric Cox, Brother Franklyn Rigby and Deacon Kirkwood Simmons have all given a substantial amount of years in making the Bahama Brass Band ministry known worldwide.

According to Bahama Brass Band public relations officer G Sean Gibson, “It is very important to recognise those who have paved the way and build a solid foundation for future generations by giving them their recognition while they are alive and to say thank you for being great role models.”

The Bahama Brass Band, which was organised in 1925 by four church ministers, continues to be a source of inspiration and continues to provide musical services to the Church of God of Prophecy, both nationally and internationally.

On Saturday night, the five men will be honoured at a special event which will get started at 7pm at the Love Centre Church of God of Prophecy, located Ernest and York Streets. There will be special performances by the world famous Bahama Brass Band and many others.

Special tributes will be given to two past ‘Legend Honourees’ who died this year, Bishop Arthur Ferguson, former national band director, and Elder Rollington Ferguson, former secretary of the band.

This band event is free to the public, but a token love offering will be taken.
