THE crippled Bahamas Celebration cruise ship remains docked in Freeport Harbour three weeks after hitting an object on leaving the port in Freeport.

According to reports, the owners of the cruise line were in Freeport on Thursday.

No official word has been released yet on the level of damage or when the service is expected to resume.

On October 31, the ship – carrying some 900 passengers on its Halloween cruise to Palm Beach, Florida – initiated emergency protocols after 9pm on striking a large object in the water.

The cruise ship lost power and started listing. Passengers were instructed to put on life jackets. The vessel returned to Freeport where a salvage crew assessed the damage and repaired a hole. No one was injured.

The cruise line sailed between Palm Beach and Grand Bahama.

Bahamas Celebration is a major contributor to the tourism industry in Grand Bahama.
