Youth group dominates food to Families of All Murder Victims

BY RICARDO WELLS

EXECUTIVES, students and mentors of the Youth Empowerment Programme Bahamas made a donation of non-perishable food items to Families of All Murder Victims on Saturday.

President and CEO of the Youth Empowerment (YEP) Bahamas Delano Munroe said that organisations such as Families Of All Murder Victims (FOAM)) should be receiving greater attention, support, funding and resources from the government and private sector. Mr Munroe pledged YEP Bahamas’ commitment to assist FOAM in the future.

Some of the 1,000 students and 150 mentors enrolled in YEP Bahamas donated the food items.

Mr Munroe insisted that parents teach their children at an early age the importance of giving back to others in their community. “One of the pillars of YEP Bahamas is community service and community outreach. YEP Bahamas decided to partner with FOAM because of the critical work that their organisation does in the community with families of murder victims as well as their outreach and preventative programmes with young people in the communities.”

FOAM is a non-profit organisation founded in 2012 which aims to assist children whose parent or parents were murdered in the Bahamas. FOAM is on call whenever a murder occurs in New Providence to lend a helping hand to families of the victims.

FOAM president and founder Khandi Gibson expressed her gratitude for the donation and reminded the students that they have an important role to play in the reduction, prevention and eradication of violent crimes in the country. She challenged the students to reach out to their peers, neighbours and friends and assist them with getting involved with positive youth programmes such as YEP Bahamas.

“The donation of the non-perishable food items will be used to assist with the ongoing work that FOAM is doing in the community, in particular with its outreach programmes to children of murder victims,” she said.
