A SEAFOOD supplier accused yesterday of $65,000 worth of fraud faces up to five years imprisonment if convicted.
Warren Wilson, 42, of Twynam Heights appeared before Magistrate Guilimina Archer on a charge of conspiracy to commit fraud by false pretences and two counts of fraud by false pretences.
He denied the offences and opted to be tried in Magistrate’s Court rather than the Supreme Court.
It is claimed that Wilson conspired with others to commit fraud between March 21 and October 27 of this year.
It is then alleged that he defrauded a man of $43,000 cash and goods between May 21 and October 22. He is also alleged to have swindled a woman out of $22,000 between March 21 and October 27.
Wilson, who was granted $30,000 bail, is scheduled to return to Magistrates Court on February 23, 2015 for trial.
Magistrate Archer warned Wilson that she would strongly consider revoking his bond if he failed to adhere to his conditions for bail, which includes reporting to the Elizabeth Estates police station on Wednesdays and Saturdays before 7pm.
Wilson has retained Roberto Reckley to defend him.
A little more than a month ago, authorities confiscated high-end vehicles believed to have been stolen in the United States and smuggled to the Bahamas.
Law enforcement believed the people who were found with the vehicles were victims of fraud and not criminals and launched an investigation into their importation.
