HUNDREDS of Bahamians flocked to the Luna Nightclub last weekend to celebrate Arthur’s Guinness Day in grand style.
The concert featured Dancehall star, Lady Saw and hot Rap newcomer, K Camp. The series is known to bring a variety of Dancehall and Reggae artists like Lady Saw and Mr Vegas but the Guinness Brand company wanted to incorporate something different this time, adding the Rap genre.
K Camp took to the Luna stage singing his best known hits such as “Cut Her Off” and “Money Baby.”
Lady Saw performed her popular songs such as “I Got ya Man”, “Chat to mi Back”, “Big Ninja Bike”, “Man a the Least” and “Sycamore Tree”.
Carlo Ramsey, Guinness Brand representative, said their goal was to host more of a mixed genre concert, bringing out the Rap, Dancehall and Reggae lovers, and they did just that.
“We wanted the fellas to come out as well as the ladies,” Mr Ramsey told In Ya Ear.
“K Camp’s songs have attracted both female and male followers. With Lady Saw, there are ladies that can always relate to her music. There are some guys that probably sing her songs while driving in their cars and don’t want anyone to know, but they are fans. We thought it was a good collaboration to bring them together and we got a good mixture of people that came out.”
The actual Arthur’s Guinness Day was last Thursday and celebrated in Jamaica.
The event featured artists like Jah Cure and Assassin, as well as Soca entertainers Skinny Fabulous and Mr Killa.
It was simulcast throughout the region on satellite television. Lady Saw also graced the stage at the Arthur’s Guinness Day celebrations in Jamaica before leaving for the Bahamas days after.
“This is all a big significance to Arthur Guinness himself who is responsible for the brand,” said Mr Ramsey.
“It is just a way to give back to all the loyal Guinness consumers and it benefits everybody.
“We celebrate in this way because we want to affiliate the brand with music on the whole.
“When you think about Guinness, you think about Reggae music but we are trying to stray away from just Reggae because if you attend one of these concerts in different parts of the world, they have Soca artists, Hip Hop, Rap and so forth.”
He said they did not host a concert last year, but they did celebrate the day by way of a bar hop/crawl.
“After the bar hop we would reserve a venue where we display on a large screen the big Arthur’s Guinness Day concert held in Jamaica,” Mr Ramsey said.
“This is not confirmed as yet but what I want to do going forward, is bring that large concert here in the Bahamas.
“For the remainder of the year, people can look forward to some more loyalty events and giving back to the community as part of our enter-to-win competitions.”
