DEMETRIUS IS NAMED X-MEN SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

VERSATILE defensive back Demetrius Ferguson continues to excel in his senior season with the St Francis Xavier X-Men football programme.

Ferguson was named the X-Men Football Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in his team’s recent 47-0 loss to the Montreal Carabins.

Ferguson had a season high 8.5 tackles in the game, including eight solo tackles, and also had two punt returns for 26 yards and a kick-off return for 18 yards.

Defensively, he added one tackle for a loss and he is currently ranked No. 6 overall in Atlantic University Sport with 21 tackles.

St FX will attempt to get back into the win column when they face the Acadia Axemen on homecoming, October 4.

Ferguson continues to build on his reputation as one of the top playmakers in the AUS among secondary players.

In week three, Ferguson capped the 38-29 win for the the visiting X-Men over the Acadia Axemen Saturday, with an interception returned for a 50-yard touchdown.

His score gave St FX a 38-16 lead late in the third quarter as the X-Men moved to 2-1 on the season.

He also made one of the key plays in the season opener to help the X-Men defeat St Mary’s University on the road in the Huskies Stadium for the first time in 16 years.

He recovered a blocked punt and returned it to the St Mary’s eight-yard line. The X-Men would go on to score on the drive and win 31-7.

In his sophomore season, Ferguson came to the X-Men and registered a career high 33.5 tackles, six passes broken up, one forced fumble, one half sack and an interception which he returned for a 78-yard touchdown. As a junior, he finished with 20.5 tackles, three passes broken up, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and a career high three interceptions.
