NEXT month, the Bahamas Cricket Association’s national programme will have an opportunity to protect home pitch advantage and rebound from a disappointing finish in their last appearance.
The Bahamas will host the International Cricket Council’s Americas division one qualifier from November 27 to December 2. The tournament will also act as a qualifier for division six of the World Cricket League.
The hosts will be joined by Suriname, Argentina and the Cayman Islands.
The Cayman Islands are already a member of the World Cricket League, so the Bahamas, Suriname and Argentina will be vying for the final spot.
The Bahamas competed with the same three countries last August in the Pepsi ICC Americas under-19 division two championship tournament.
Suriname clinched the championship and the Bahamas were winless in the three-day, four-team tournament. The event also served as a qualifier for the 2015 division one qualification for the 2016 World Cup. Argentina were second and the Cayman Islands third.
At the senior level, the BCA hosted the ICC Tournament of the Americas division two in February. Participating teams included Argentina, Belize, Panama, Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas.
The Bahamas’ recent history of strong finishes at the event includes capturing the tournament title despite losing a thrilling final match by three wickets.
During the under-19 tournament, BCA executive Greg Taylor Sr said the Bahamas looks to be one of the major players in the tournament.
“So it’s imperative that the Bahamas win this tournament,” he said. “We will have our best team, so expect that the Bahamas will be in a much better position.”
