ALL ROADS will lead to Adelaide Village on National Heroes Day as the Anglican Church Men (ACM) of St James Parish will be hosting its ninth annual Father RF Anthony Roberts’ King of the Grill Fest.

The Grill Fest will be held on Monday from noon to 6pm on the Church grounds and day is expected to end with a Junkanoo Rush-Out.

The ACM of St James in its commitment to national development and their community outreach is known for hosting this major fundraiser every year since 2005. The main purpose is to raise funds for the outreach programme. Through this initiative, the ACM hopes to help the Adelaide Community and surrounding areas.

Funds raised at the Grill Fest will be utilised for the ongoing programme of assisting the Adelaide community, the church environment and a number of other charitable organisations. The event is also held to promote fellowship and fun. The highlight of the day will be the cooking competition between the various ACM branches in New Providence.

The hour and a half competition will begin at 3pm. Teams will be judged by a point system marking Punctuality (10), Presentation (10), Taste divided between flavour and texture (0-15), and Ingredient compatibility (0-15).

“In order to ensure fairness and that a very high standard is maintained, Chef Addimae Farrington of the College of The Bahamas’ hotel training division and three certified chefs will judge the competition,” the ACM members of St James said.

A floating trophy will be awarded to the overall winner and there will be trophies for second and third places. The current champions are St Agnes, who defeated two-time defending champions St George’s.

St Agnes won with 354.5 points from St George (345), St Ambrose (339.5), Holy Cross (335.5), Holy Trinity (316), St James (302.5) and St Gregory (281).

The event is named in honour of Father RF Anthony Roberts, former Assistant Priest at St James, whose vision it was to invite the different branches of the ACM to come together for a cooking competition. ACM members of St James said before this could be realised, Father Roberts passed away.

The ACM of St James, under the leadership of Julius Cox, took up the challenge and felt that it was only fitting that the competition be named in his memory.
