TWO men are in custody after police caught them yesterday with more than 1,000lbs of marijuana worth an estimated street value of $1m.
The men, 36 and 31, both from Acklins, were arrested shortly after 1am yesterday when a team of officers with the Police Marine Support Unit confronted them.
Acting on intelligence, officers went to an area one mile south of New Providence, where they intercepted a 32-foot vessel with the two suspects onboard.
The suspects are expected to appear in court later this week to be formally charged.
Sam Butler, Officer in charge of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), told The Tribune yesterday that after the latest drug seizure, police have confiscated about 12,000lbs of drugs this year alone. He placed the street value for this at about $12m.
“This is ahead of other years in terms of comparative periods,” he said, crediting the seizure of such large amounts this year to “diligence, hard work and aggressive intelligence gathering.”

Since its illegal here but legal in parts of the United States and Europe, why don't the government confiscate and broker a sale to Colorado, California or Connecticut for medical use on behalf of the people and the public purse? lol
