Tourism Minister Obie Wilchcombe said yesterday that web shop legalisation would “absolutely” create additional Gaming Board jobs, adding that training for gaming inspectors would start immediately after Bill passed the House of Assembly.
Speaking outside the Cabinet Office, Mr Wilchcombe, who has responsibility for gaming, told Tribune Business: “We have to begin the process, and we will begin that process immediately after the Bill has passed.
“We will begin the process of getting our people ready. When we were in Las Vegas just recently we met with one of the major trainers, and we also met with one of the companies that monitors and provides the services, so we are going to begin that process immediately.
“That’s why we had to go to Las Vegas. We had a very good meeting. The truth is we have to train our people because it is going to change tremendously. You are going to have a central location where they can monitor everything taking place in the web shops and casinos,” he added.
“It is going to require new employment, different employment, IT specialists, mathematicians, all sorts of individuals required to make this possible.” Mr Wilchombe said it was too early to say how many regulatory jobs would likely be created.
“We don’t know the number yet, but they will not only be here but also in Grand Bahama and other places where casinos and web shops are. Web shops are all over the country, so we have to think about how we are going to network and be able to monitor all that is going on because that’s going to determine taxes. While we get the audit, we also have to ensure that we know the true figures,” said Mr Wilchcombe.

Comade Minister Obie to hear you talks it now sounds like after the numbers "regularization" bill be passed in the House (and Senate too I expect) it sounds more likes the numbers men's only have their cotton-sacks and numbered balls to bring to da table. What happened to all those many millions we were told during the PM's 'no horse in da race" referendum, all about the many millions of dollars those numbers man's had invested in high tech IT technology and personal? Now it's down to a cotton-sack and numbers balls.

Now, it's does comes down to no more than a couple of cotton-sacks and numbered balls. By the way Obie, who in hell was it in cabinet who came up with the brilliance of the term "regularization" (my inaudible.belly laughter)?

Wilchcombe (as the voice for Christie and Maynard-Gibson) will soon be announcing that the Bahamas government plans to sign a multi-million dollar contract with a new Bahamian group that will be partnering with a "highly reputable" Las Vegas based group to provide all of the necessary training, etc. for the proper regulation of our illegal web shops! And you can just guess who will be amongst the blessed owners of that new Bahamian group that gets the lucrative long-term multi-million dollar training contract from our government!!
