TWO Bahamian men were arrested after US Coast Guard officials discovered a large quantity of marijuana and cash aboard a speedboat about ten miles northwest of Bimini.

Police Inspector Terecita Pinder confirmed that some $16,500 worth of marijuana and $15,000 in US currency were discovered and seized by officials during the drug bust.

She reported that shortly after 7pm on Sunday, a red and black 19ft speedboat was spotted and searched by US Coast Guard officials, who found three large taped packages of suspected marijuana and a large amount of cash.

Inspector Pinder said the drugs weighed an estimated 16.5 pounds.

The men, ages 24 and 36, were taken into Freeport and handed over to Drug Enforcement Unit officers. The suspects are residents of Bimini. Investigations continue.

Amazing that while the Government attacks legitimate business with new taxes, raised taxes, VAT and severe penalties for non compliance, This industry is experiencing a resurgence to the levels of the 80's and branching out into human smuggling. maybe they'll start courses at BAMSI? Regularize them too right?
