A POLICE officer is injured in hospital after an incident involving a 34-year-old motorist who was shot by police after he refused to stop at the weekend.
Shortly after 2am yesterday, police were conducting an operation at Baillou Hill Road South when they signalled a motorist to stop.
The driver refused and attempted to run over one of the officers in an escape bid.
This led officers to open fire on the driver, who was hit in the hand and thigh.
The officer’s injuries from the incident are said not to be life-threatening while the suspect is detained in hospital in stable condition.
