POLICE will determine today if charges will be brought against an American man accused of attempted sexual assault against a woman on Paradise Island.

The woman, also a visitor to The Bahamas, reported to police around 3am yesterday that the man whom she had met two days before had attempted to sexually assault her at the resort where she was staying.

Superintendent Paul Rolle told The Tribune that “police will determine by as early as tomorrow if any charges will be filed.”

“We are actively investigating the matter and from what we have so far, it doesn’t look as if any charges will be brought, but tomorrow, we’ll know for sure,” the Central Detective Unit chief added.

While investigations continue into this incident, police also made a number of arrests over the weekend that resulted in fewer guns being on the streets of the capital.

The first arrest occurred at Sir Milo Butler Highway shortly after 10:30pm on Saturday when police conducted a search of a 28-year-old man and uncovered a handgun and ammunition. The man was  taken into custody for questioning.

Two hours later, officers were led to St Vincent Road where they arrested two men, aged 49 and 22, found in possession of a shotgun and ammunition for the weapon.

On Friday, police seized a handgun, a stolen vehicle and a quantity of dangerous drugs during an island-wide operation in New Providence that led to the arrests of 18 persons for minor and major offences.
