FREE National Movement Leader Dr Hubert Minnis branded the Christie administration as “the worst” government to ever lead the country as there continues to be no resolution on the reportedly unauthorised signing of a multi-million dollar letter of intent by Ministry of Works Parliamentary Secretary Renward Wells.

Speaking to The Tribune yesterday, Dr Minnis criticised Prime Minister Perry Christie for not acting, saying in a properly functioning Westminster system, Mr Wells would have already been fired.

He said: “It’s as if everyday we are being told that this matter will be handled and then the next day comes, and (there is) still no resolve, nothing from the government. But in a fully functional Westminster system the consequences should have been known 74 days ago.

“The fact that Mr Christie has not fired the man raises serious questions about who all was involved in ordering and approving the letter of intent to be signed. Mr Christie has demonstrated that he is afraid to act.

“This is obviously the worst government the country has ever seen because this government is very indecisive.

“To be honest, I was disappointed that Deputy Prime Minister Philip ‘Brave’ Davis did not make the decision in Christie’s absence to have Mr Wells removed as he did when he fired Dr Andre Rollins as Gaming Board chairman.”

On Tuesday night, Mr Davis, who was at the time acting as prime minister because Mr Christie was out of the country, said the consequences on the matter would be known shortly. He said “something” would be done soon after Prime Minister Christie returned to the country yesterday.

On Tuesday, Mr Davis said: “We intend to do something hopefully as soon as the prime minister is back off his trip.

“We have a lot of other things (on the table). We didn’t think that issue, what we do in respect to that or how we respond to that issue, ought to take the place of what we have been doing. We had some heavy lifting that we have been doing over the past several months, most of that has been completed and now. . .we will now pay attention to it (the Letter of Intent (LOI) controversy).

“The consequences will be known shortly.”

Mr Davis did not say specifically how soon after Mr Christie’s return the public would be made aware of the consequences, if any, that might result in the Wells’ affair.

His reassurance comes more than two months after concerns were raised over whether Mr Wells was authorised to sign the $650m LOI with Stellar Waste to Energy Management and speculation continues to mount over who gave him the directives to do so.
