EDITOR, The Tribune.
I have listened and watched with great interest the ongoing attacks on the leader of the Opposition Dr Hubert Minnis by The Nassau Guardian editorial, National Review, Simon Front Porch, etc.
I don’t recall a single leader of any major party or third force that has been criticised with such regularity as this. It makes me wonder why?
Do they have a horse in the race or is this simply objective journalism?
Certainly Dr Minnis has had some missteps, but certainly far less than the leader of the DNA who has become a bit of a media darling despite not being able to attract Bahamians with name-face recognition who has national caché.
Dr Minnis has exercised infinitely fewer lapses in judgment than Prime Minister Perry Christie. Yet he attracts more negative ink than both.
Dr Minnis is a successful business man, an effective former Minister of Health, a model member of Parliament and a Prime Minister in waiting who is learning the political craft having only recently come to politics and even more recently to National leadership much to his and other others surprise. The learning curve is steep but he appears to be climbing just fine.
And if one wants to assess his capacity to get it right in the end then just ask this simple question – “If Minnis is doing much better than Christie after a few short years in leadership how do you explain Christie’s miserable performance after 40 years?” Time is on Minnis’ side and patience needs to be on ours.
