THE Department of Civil Aviation announced today the temporary closure of the runway at Staniel Cay, Exuma for repairs to be carried out.
Aviation officials said in a statement that repairs to the runway would be managed by the Ministry of Works and Urban Development with both groups anticipating that repairs would be completed "within the shortest possible time".
The Civil Aviation Department has also released a NOTAM, a written notification normally issued to pilots before a flight, to advise them of circumstances relating to the state of flying.
In addition to the NOTAM, the local Administrator was advised by the Department to assure that all of the facility's stakeholders are made aware of the temporary closure.
During the closure of the runway, alternative access to Staniel Cay can be made by flying into nearby Black Point, Exuma, and taking a five-minute ferry to Staniel Cay.
The Department of Civil Aviation apologised for any inconvenience caused.
