THE Bahamas Golf Federation is expected to honour the legacy of the late ‘King’ Eric Gibson by hosting the King Eric Gibson Memorial Golf Tournament at Lyford Cay Golf Course on May 3.
“Registration for this event is ongoing at The Driving Range at The Blue Hill Complex and all of the golfing properties. The two-man scramble tournament will have a noon, shotgun start,” according to a press release.
Golfers are encouraged to check in at 10:30am. A 2015 Lexus 300, 2015 Toyota Camry (hybrid) and a golf cart will all be up for grabs as hole-in-one prizes.
Golfing equipment, rounds of golf at the various properties and airline tickets will be awarded to the top seven net finishers and the first three gross finishers.
Lunch will immediately follow at The Bahama Grill Restaurant, West Bay Street. There will be lots of give-aways and prizes and for the competitive golfers an additional pot.
‘King’ Eric was known around the world as a musician. He has travelled the world representing the Bahamas with his music. But his golf clubs were a part of his travel package as were his guitar. He played golf in Canada, Australia, Europe, US and throughout the Caribbean.
“It is not known where/who/how he learned to play golf or got interested in the game. Interested instead of being taught golf, as no one alive could have taught King Eric golf with that swing which was as original as his musical talent,” the release said.
