Bahamian Brewery & Beverage Company hosted its Sands ‘Man in the Boat’ sculling race during the National Family Islands Regatta in beautiful Elizabeth Harbour, Georgetown, Exuma.

All day, the fans had conversations on who they think would be the regatta sculling winner.

In fact, the people of Exuma were reminded that, two years in a row, someone from Mangrove Cay, Andros, won the sculling race in Georgetown - Josh Green 2013 and Clay Moxey 2014. This created even more excitement as many registered to scull and then at 5:40pm there was action in five heats to determine who would advance to the final.

In the end an Exumian was declared the winner, beating out Josh Green, Clay Moxey and Danny Knowles from Salt Pond, Long Island.

The crowd got very excited when Rudolph ‘Reds’ McKenzie, a local from the settlement of Barraterre, reached the buoy first. When he turned to head to the finish line, the crowd went wild, cheering for their home town boy.

The winners:

1st Place – Randolph McKenzie (Reds) - 10 cases and a trophy

2nd Place – Danny Knowles – Long Island - 8 cases and a trophy

3rd Place – Josh Green – Mangrove Cay, Andros - 6 cases and a trophy

The Sands ‘Man in the Boat’ sculling race has become a favourite event for regatta lovers. In fact, more and more Family Island regattas and homecomings are requesting the sculling races.

“We are extremely pleased with the amount of persons that registered, and showing an interest in the way of life for Bahamians of yesterday,” said Bahamian Brewery in a press release.

The Sands Beer ‘Man in the Boat’ sculling race will now travel to the Long Island Regatta in Salt Pond, Long Island, June 3-6.

The winner in the various regattas will travel to Nassau later in the year to participate in the Sands Beer ‘Man in the Boat’ Sculling Championship of the Bahamas to be held at Montagu Beach in early November.
