A 34-year-old man was wounded in the stomach on Monday during a shootout with police officers in the Freeport area.
According to police, officers received a report shortly before 11pm of gunshots heard in the Weddell Avenue area. While in the Bruce Avenue area, they stopped a grey Ford Taurus with two male occupants, one of whom got out of the vehicle and opened fire on the officers, who returned fire.
Inspector Terecita Pinder, of Grand Bahama Police, said the gunman made good his escape but the driver of the vehicle was arrested by officers.
She reported that a short time later, police received information that a 34-year-old man had been taken in a private vehicle to the Rand Memorial Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach.
The man is listed in serious, but stable condition. He is assisting police with their investigation.
