Following the success of its launch in April, the local mixed martial arts community will display some of the sport’s best local talent once again with another marquee event.

BOMAC Cage Fights 2: The Revenge is set for August 29 at the Breezes Beach Resort, beginning at 7pm.

Headlining the 15 bouts expected on the card will include Bahamian Rico “The Triggerman” Farrington versus “Platinum” Mike Perry of the United States and Bahamian Robert “TQ” Turnquest versus Smith “The American Dream” Amisial.

The card will also feature the first female MMA cage match in Bahamian history featuring Melanie “BearTraps” Camden against Gillian “Savage” Robertson.

Farrington, 26, is based out of Miramar, Florida, and competes as a welterweight. He has compiled a 3-2 pro record thus far with one KO and two unanimous decisions.

Farrington has recorded consecutive wins over Joe Leo (unanimous decision) and Mikerson Lindor (TKO) fighting at Fight Time 20 and Fight Time 21.

Perry, 23, is undefeated thus far at 3-0.

Turnquest, 32, also a welterweight, is 3-0 thus far with one KO and two submissions. His last fight was a submission win over Baraq Hunter via Triangle Choke at Island Fights 30 in September 2014.

Tickets for the event went on sale this week and are available at Outdoor Sportsman, Seafront Sushi, Club One Fitness Centre and J Line Fitness Bahamas.

Standard seating tickets are $25 while ringside (limited) is $35 and VIP (very limited) is $50.

In April, BOMAC Cage Fights 1 featured seven bouts on the card hosted at Mario’s Bowling and Entertainment Palace.

Fighters from Trinidad, Jamaica, Cayman Islands and United States competed alongside top local talent on the bout card.

Local fighters which took part included Giovanni Johnson, Dj Brown, Pierre Simmons, Tyson Isaacs, Cameron Lewis, Marcian Tucker, Kenny Neymour and Jasmine Wilchcombe.

Dr Kent Bazard, organiser and Empire Mixed Martial Arts founder, from the Beast Mode Fight Team, said that he expects the appeal of cage fighting to grow in the Bahamas.

This event was sanctioned by the Bahamas Mixed Martial Arts Association, Florida Combative Sports, The Bahamas Wushu Sanda Association and The Bahamas Martial Arts Federation.

“It was a dream come true. I’ve never had the experience, but I wanted to provide that experience for somebody else,” he said.

“BOMAC 1 was just the beginning of things to come. We’ve come a very long way in the sport. Cage fighting will make a huge impact because it’s a little different from fighting in a ring. We want to push the sport locally.”

The cage fight events are billed as a part of the larger BOMAC Championships which began in 2010.

BOMAC traditionally features an open forms and weapons tournament, point and continuous fighting, amateur Sanda/Sanshou, Pankration, grappling and amateur MMA.

BOMAC has hosted over 500 competitors from 11 countries in its history. In addition, it also hosts various martial art seminars by world-class instructors.
