THE case of a man standing trial in connection with a gunpoint gold jewellery snatching was discontinued in Supreme Court.

Benjamin Sawyer, 23, was to stand trial a month ago before Justice Roy Jones concerning the July 27, 2012 armed robbery of Rico Sweeting.

Sweeting was held up for his gold neck chain, charm and hand chain worth, $1,750.

However, prosecutor Cordell Frazier had indicated at the July 13 hearing that the Crown was likely to take a particular course of action and the matter was adjourned to August 12.

On Wednesday, Mr Frazier returned to the Supreme Court with a nolle prosequi signed by the attorney general asking that the matter be discontinued.

Seeing the document, Justice Jones obliged the order and informed the accused that the case against him was being discontinued.

However, the judge told the accused that the Crown, if it chose to, could bring the matter back to court at any time.

Sawyer had always denied committing the offence and had retained attorney Calvin Seymour to defend him.

A conviction for armed robbery carries a prison term of up to life imprisonment.
