POLICE took a woman into custody yesterday afternoon after she led officers on a high-speed chase through the inner city before crashing on Wulff Road.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean said around 11am officers on routine patrol attempted to stop the suspect, who was driving a heavily tinted silver coloured Honda on Augusta Street. When officers approached the car, the suspect sped off, he said.
“The driver refused to stop and took police on a high speed chase through several areas in the inner city and Bain and Grants Town. The woman was driving recklessly and putting the lives of other persons in danger, so officers fired several shots attempting to blow (out) the tyres. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Wulff Road. The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment. Her injuries are listed as non-life threatening.”
Investigations continue.
In other crime news, police arrested 14 persons early Thursday morning in two separate incidents for questioning in reference to murder, stolen vehicles and firearm possession.
In the first incident shortly after 1am, a team of officers from the Firearms, Tracing and Investigations Unit were on patrol, when they observed two suspicious males sitting on a Honda on Solider Road.
The officers conducted a search of the vehicle and found a nine-millimeter pistol containing six rounds of ammunition.
The two males, ages 24 and 20, were taken into custody for questioning in reference to firearm possession, suspected stolen vehicles and murder. Officers from the Flying Squad arrested the other 12 suspects during an island wide operation.
The 12 suspects were arrested for various offences, including murder, possession of dangerous drugs, shop breaking and threats of death.
