Let brotherly love continue – Part II

By Evangelist Teresa Dorsett

IN part one, I wrote that there is a prevalent lack of love in our churches, and that the body of Christ have fallen short on this principle.

The Church in this present age is not abiding by the teaching set forth in God’s Word, which speaks of being of one mind, of one accord, of consoling (or comforting) the brethren, of showing charity (or love) to one another and having bowels of mercies. Part I speaks also of bearing your brother or sister’s burden/burdens that carry even more weight.

Many so-called Christians backbite, slander, cause strife and contention. These things ought not to be named among the body, but sadly they are. Finally, it speaks of the body attacking itself, and that it is scientific fact that any living thing that attacks itself will eventually be destroyed, and that Satan who is our real enemy, the one that seeks to destroy all things good and true, is the one we fight, defending ourselves and the weak in the body with fervour. The body of Christ must keep in memory that we the Church are admonished by the Word to walk in the light.

1 John 1:5-7 (KJV) says: “This then is the message which we have heard of him and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth. But if we walk in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin.”

Note the fact that light and darkness cannot dwell in the same place; where one is, the other is nonexistent.

1 John 1:5-7 clearly tells us then that if there is backbiting, hatred, jealousy, contention, malice, strife, vanity and such the like, we who are supposed to be the Church are not walking then in fellowship with Christ, and if we say that we are, we deceive ourselves.

Finally, note that the Church is not a sanctuary, but a living organism of born again, blood washed believers in Christ. A sanctuary is the place of worship and assembly, a place where believers are meant to come for healing, restoration, comfort, strength and so on, and a place where sinners can find refuge, forgiveness, compassion and deliverance. The question is this, are we, the Church, fulfilling this mandate? Sadly no. The sanctuary in this day and age is a place of manifested carnality, the works of the flesh evident. There is no wonder why the Church (so called) is mocked by the world.
