HURRICANE Danny has formed in the Atlantic, becoming the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) reported on Thursday morning.
Danny's maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75mph and additional strengthening is forecast during the next two days.
The hurricane is centred about 1,090 miles east of the Windward Islands and is moving west-north-west around 12 mph.
The NHC says Danny is a small storm with hurricane-force winds only extending outward up to 10 miles from the centre.
The storm does not currently pose a threat to any land.
