SEVERE WEATHER WARNING

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 1:50PM EDT UNTIL 4:00PM THURSDAY.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE ISLANDS BIMINI, GRAND BAHAMA, BERRY ISLANDS, NORTHERN ABACO AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 1:45PM OBSERVATION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY CONTINUED TO SHOW LINES/CLUSTERS OF WELL ORGANIZED THUNDERSTORMS MOVING NORTHEASTWARDS ASSOCIATED WITH A SURFACE TROUGH.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN.

RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTENING CONDUCTORS.

The recent shift to the west has taken most of the Bahamas out of the direct path of Erika and hopefully Grand Bahama will be spared. This seems one of the islands of the Bahamas least able to suffer from a storm at this time as it still hasn't fully recovered from the last ones.
